The original melody of Silent Night is by Franz Xavier Gruber (1787-1863). What Child is This? is based on the English folk tune Greensleeves, thought to have been originally composed by King Henry VIII. We Three Kings is based on the 1857 Christmas carol by John Henry Hopkins Jr. The tune to O Come, O Come Emanuel has its origins in 15th-century France. The tune O, Holy Night was composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847. The melody of Adeste Fidelis has been attributed to various authors, including John Francis Wade (1711–1786). The tune to Joy to the World is from Antioch by George Frideric Handel. The tune of Away in a Manger is by William J. Kirkpatrick (1895). The original tune of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing is by Felix Mendelssohn.

Composed specifically for performance by church organists during Advent, this suite of arrangements may be performed seperately or together, as postludes, and as processionals and preludes. Nine Advent Postludes and Preludes was begun in 2001 in New York City and completed in December 2022 in Rhinebeck, New York.
