Consolation for Orchestra (commissioned by the Steven Gerber Foundation) will open the Palm Beach Symphony Orchestra’s season at the Kravis Center, conducted by Gerard Schwarz in November, along with a reprise of con gái: a greeting and a farewell.

Daron’s new book, Exploring Operafilm: Making the Bardo Trilogy, was published in May by McFarland and Company and has been on Amazon’s best sellers list for eleven weeks as of August. Daron will do occasional readings / signings during the 26-27 season promoting the book. Scheduled so far are, Miami, Chicago, Philadelphia.

The University of Wisconsin Mills Music Library and the Wisconsin Music Archives announced in March that they have acquired Daron’s personal papers, sketches, and archive.

The world premiere of Envoi for band (commissioned in honor of Joseph Schwantner by a consortium of college bands) took place in June, performed by the Royal Northern College of Music band conducted by Mark Heron in Manchester, England. There is a recording of the performance below. Performances of the work by consortia members will take place over the course of the season.

Lyric Fest in Philadelphia features Daron’s music in September concerts, and Opera Delaware presents a staged pair of performances starring Dane Suarez of the monodrama Songs of Madness and Sorrow in January.

Torch Songs for a Pyromaniac (on words by Buck Ross), The Heart Asks (three songs on words of Emily Dickinson), and two groups of songs on words by Reg Huston: Things That Will Remain and One Wish, will be premiered this season, as well as the delayed premieres of the song cycle Mata Hari Songs and Four Shakespeare Fragments for Three Players (for voice, piano and cello).

New Peermusic Classical print-music issues of the vocal scores of Just for the Night and Cradle Song, as well as Four Dickinson Songs come out in August. 26-27 season new print issues also include: The Art of Song (here), Piano Trio No. 3 (here), Torch Songs for a Pyromaniac (here), Sonata for Cello and Piano (here).
