Program Note:

Visual artworks by four young Vermont artists provided the inspiration for Gesture Drawings, a suite for orchestra whose first movement is a chaconne (a repeated sequence of chords supporting an increasingly florid melody); the second movement is a passacaglia (a repeated set of notes); the third movement is a melodía and chorale; and the finale is a set of five winsome variations on the first theme of the Beethoven Violin Concerto. Dedicated to music director Troy Peters, who led the first performance, it was premiered by the Vermont Youth Symphony Orchestra on 5 May 2006 at the Long Music Center in Colchester, Vermont.
