Daron continues a thirty-year-plus relationship with the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia begun when he was still a student at the Curtis Institute. Over the decades the celebrated reading orchestra (comprised of professionals, semi-professionals, and music students from Philadelphia's colleges and conservatories) has rehearsed most of the Beethoven Symphonies, and over a dozen new works (including Hagen's own, which he often workshops from the podium with the orchestra prior to giving to the orchestras that have commissioned them), under his baton, alongside works by Schuman, Copland, and others.

During this session, Hagen does an in-depth rehearsal of the Copland Third Symphony, with emphasis on drawing comparisons during key sections to other works composed at the time by Bernstein, Harris, Barber, and others. Composers from local conservatories will attend the rehearsal, and an analysis / discussion of the work will take place afterwards.
