This set of variations is based on two tunes: the first is a traditional carol tune from Monk’s Gate, Sussex; the other is a traditional carol from Dublin, mid 1880’s.
Part of the sixty-minute-long recorded suite entitled Silent Night, Music for the Christmas Season but usually performed seperately,
this work was composed during December of 1997 at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and premiered, in recording sessions at the Cathedral Church of St.
Matthew the Apostle, Washington, DC on 20 April 1997 by Robert LaRue.
