Program Note
Composed at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts during the summer of 1991, Hagen's Vocalise for Trumpet (or Flugelhorn) and Piano is an homage to Bud Powell. It is a free-standing recital work published by E.C. Schirmer, and serves also as the slow movement of Hagen's Flugelhorn Concerto. It was first performed by Donna Hagen on a recital at Morphy Recital Hall in Madison, Wisconsin on 10 March 1992.
